Beyond A&M: Expand Your First Year

Beyond A&M: Expand Your First Year

The global society we live in today requires experience beyond the Texas A&M campus and knowledge and experiences to supplement  what you learn in  books.

It is not too early to begin considering an experience to enhance your degree, such as study abroad, National Student Exchange, or an internship.  In fact, many first year students find it helpful to talk to their academic advisor about these programs very early in their academic career, so they have plenty of time to plan it into their degree program.

Study Abroad

Study Abroad is a program that allows Texas A&M University students to study in a foreign country.  Programs range from one week to a full year.  Some of the programs involve traveling and studying with A&M faculty and students; other programs allow students to enroll in a foreign university.  Students who study abroad gain important insights into another culture while continuing their progress toward graduation at Texas A&M.

National Student Exchange

National Student Exchange offers students the opportunity to spend up to one year studying at another participating university in the United States or Canada, while remaining enrolled at Texas A&M and earning course credit toward their degree.  NSE students have the opportunity to expand their horizons and experience life outside of Texas.

Internships

Internships are experiences that allow students to practice what they have learned in the classroom in a professional work setting.  Some academic programs require internships as part of a degree program, others simply suggest them.  In many programs students can receive academic credit for an internship.
